Spotter App

We saw customers with the need to have a centralized database to manage spot colors outside of a specific RIP.  And we saw that we could calculate a better match than most RIPs.  So, we made a software tool to do just this.  Spotter communicates with measurement devices and RIPs.  Import measured values and let Spotter calculate a better match in the form of a file that can be imported into your RIP.

Centralized Spot Color Management

Spotter features an easy-to-use database to keep all your spot colors organized.  First, there is a database of "Color Standards" which define the spot color's L*a*b* values and the reference measurement information.  Additionally, Spotter has a database of "Reproductions" which correspond to how the Color Standard is printed on a particular system defined by the printer, printer settings and media.  Reproductions also include delta E information for how well it matches its Color Standard.

Flexible Data Import/Export

Spotter has the ability to import data from spreadsheets, text files, most Color RIPs and import measurement data from popular devices in order to eliminate the need for manual typing.  It can export data in different formats including files that can be imported into popular Color RIPs.  Its ability to export data in CGATS format allows it to be visualized in Chromix's ColorThink.

Iterative Spot Color Optimization

Spotter's greatest feature is giving you the ability to input (or import) L*a*b* values achieved, compare them to your targets, and calculating an improved color match.  By repeating iterations of this process, Spotter will zero in on the lowest possible delta E that can be achieved.  Spotter allows you to select the iteration that produces the best match and keep track of its attributes.
